Favorite Movie: operation peticote for right now
Comments: I read his autobiography last night and finished today. I was intrigued about his life and about his pre Hollywood life. I found him to be a man of intelligence and class. I also liked the way he owned up to any mistakes he made in his life up to that point. He was a brilliant actor and there will never be another Cary Grant!

Favorite Movie: Varies each day, too many good one's to choose just one....
Comments: Great site, good to find other Cary fans out there still. I have been a big fan for as long as I can remember, which as I am 47 is probably about 45 years. I am so proud the great man was originally British, even though the US was his adopted home. Nothing like a wet, rainy , English Sunday afternoon, with a hot water bottle, box of choc's and a CG movie - nothing better!

Keep up the great work, so glad I found this site. Thank you.

Comments:  Cary Grant only made one unforgivable mistake, and that was not having more children!!!  His daughter, Jennifer, is one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen and she seems to be a great person.  Mr. Grant would be very proud of how she matured.  I wish more men would follow Cary Grant's lead and try to live life with a lot of class and to spend their lives improving themselves in every way.  That's a good lesson for us all.

We miss you, Archie!

Hi Debbie,

I like your Cary Grant website.

As you can guess from the subject line, I am among those puzzled by the "fact" that Cary Grant never said "Judy, Judy, Judy."
Let me explain.

About a million years ago, I watched an episode of the Andy Griffith Show and saw George Lindsey as Goober Pyle do his impression of Cary Grant by saying "Judy, Judy, Judy." At that time, I had no clue why that was an imitation of Cary Grant.

Some time later, I was watching Father Goose (still a favorite), saw Cary Grant save the girl from the strafing airplane, then respond to her offer (a stammered "you can kiss me if you want to", as she removed her glasses and rendered herself blind) by sweeping her into his arms and saying "Judy, Judy, Judy", and something about her not going back to be with "the children", at which time she ran away, and Cary was later scolded by Leslie Caron for scaring the girl.

I remember this clearly, and have been puzzled by later hearing "I never said it" and later viewing the movie again, and seeing a different scene in place of the "Judy" one.

My first viewing of Father Goose was on broadcast TV, (ABC, CBS, or NBC) in Charlotte, North Carolina, I'm guessing a mid-1960 time frame.

My theory is that there was, and possibly still is, at least one print of Father Goose with a different scene from the intended final release. The interview of Stephanie Berrington McNutt on your website is great. Do you think she might remember if any take of the strafing scene went that way, and could have made it to print? You can undoubtedly ask her easier than I can.

I'm not losing any sleep over this mystery, but having it rattle around the back of my mind for forty years is beginning to affect my hearing. If you think it's worth pursuing, God Speed, and let me know the outcome.

Thanks, and again, great site.

Favorite Movie:  An Affair to Remember - Charade- Philadelphia Story &
many others
Comments: It's very nice to know that some very young people have "discovered" Cary Grant. He was definitely a giant of film. He was so suave and sophisticated and yet could play such broad comedy! You could read his face and actions and still be surprised as in "Charade" or "Suspicion". Of course, I never wanted him to be the "bad guy"! His talent was innate and a gift to the silver screen.

I keep waiting for any young actor to follow his style but really haven't seen any so far. The times have changed too much to expect this, I imagine. I'm just very happy that his films are still out there and we can still enjoy watching his gorgeous face and the interesting characters he portrayed in the array of his many films.

Did you notice how great he looked even in old age? What a wonderful gift he was for all of us who loved him!!

Monica
P.S. Where are the 2005 comments? Am I the only one? This was fun!

Favorite Movie: Notorious
Comments: Maureen Donaldson wrote a pack of lies in her book 'An Affair to Remember' ! ! I was intrigued at first, but then I realized what a vengeful piece of work it was! Very angry young woman then. I truly believe that Mr. Grant saw her for what she was (a green author looking for a great story) and he let her go. It is kind of the 'Mommie Dearest' story of Joan Crawford's daughter, these are very angry people that need to purge to a professional and see therapy.

My favorite movie was "My Favorite Wife". He was so funny in that movie. The end of that movie was really funny when he went into his wifes (Irene Dunne) wearing the Santa Claus outfit. I also think Irene Dunne, and Cary Grant made great movies together. He is, and will be my favorite actor of all times.

Favorite Movie:  I have to pick just one?? The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer
Comments: Though I wouldn't consider myself a rabid fan, I came to know and appreciate Cary Grant a few summers ago. We, too, dumped cable (too much objectionable content), so we watch lots of videos, mostly old movies. A local video store has (1) an extensive collection of older movies and (2) a weekly special of renting five (not new release) movies for five dollars for five days. We took full advantage of that special, and must have seen 20 CG movies that summer. When we had finally seen all they had to offer, I went through CG withdrawal, missing the sound of his voice and wondering what I was going to watch. Since then, we have gathered several of his movies (20, maybe?). I also real like "People Will Talk" and "Amazing Adventure."

Do you have a message board/forum? If not, do you recommend one? If you decide to add a message board to your wonderful collection, check out www.dukewayne.com for a wonderful format for a message board (it is the John Wayne Message Board). I don't really like the IMDb forums, too many jerks seem to hang out there.

Anyway, awesome site, I'll be bookmarking it and returning often!

Comments: I have been in love with this great actor since I was 5. That was also the same time I fell in love with four young men called The Beatles ( I have a thing for Englishmen) I have a pretty good collection of CG DVd's and recall seeing a movie several years ago where he is a businessman and refers to his "most sincere neck tie". I can't seem to recall the name of the movie. can anyone assist me before I have a nervous break down! I know I didn't dream this as my husband recalls it too but not the movie. I believe it was being showed on AMC back in the good days with Bob Dorian or Nick Clooney and I came in about half into the movie. When you see a CG movie on TV it just pulls you right in! PLEASE keep the memory and spirit of Mr. Grant alive.

Comments: Hello there!  My name's Ally and I'm 17 years old and from New York. Recently I've fallen head-over-heels in LOVE with Cary Grant and just adore him as an actor! Ever since I was very little, I've always been a GIGANTIC fan of cinema--especially movies from the 1930s to 1960s. I have absolutely no idea why it took me such an awfully long time to finally "discover" and fall in love with Cary Grant, but apparently I've finally come to my sense and realize what I've been missing!

I just wanted to give you a HUGE kudos on your website. It's ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! By-far the best Cary Grant site on the internet! I just wanted to make sure that you knew what a wonderful job you've done on it, because you definitely deserve to know. So, thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful site filled with fun, information, insight,
and absolutely delicious pictures ;-) Keep up the great work!

Happy Thoughts,

Comments: Cary Grant's movies have been an endless source of joy and he will live on in them for me.

I will never forget, on a delightful summer day in July '75 when having lunch, I looked out the window of the bayside restaurant (The Red Onion) in Newport Beach, CA, and there, on a ordinary-looking cabin cruiser's deck, was the handsome, adorable CARY GRANT! And on the deck by himself.

There was no mistaking who he was. Apparently he stopped for lunch at the restaurant (Woody's Wharf) next door.

He appeared to be relaxed, tan, white-haired, and oh so close and yet too far away to wave to. The 'picture window' did not open, so there was no chance to yell "Hi!" The memory of watching him still brings a smile to face.

Hi Debbie

Just downloaded your screen saver – fantastic……..thank you very much,

Also, thank you for the many hours of pleasure going through your site – I visit you at least once a week.

I just read the latest book on CG by Marc Eliot and I agree with your review – although his admiration does show through.

Did you notice the picture of CG opposite the front page? Very spectacular – do you have a copy of it?

This “relationship” only goes one way – is there anything I can do for you?

Once again, thank you.

Comments:
I am a 26 year old Cary Grant fan and live in Norwich in the east of England.  I'm sure that all Cary fans know that his first stage appearance with the Bob Pender troupe took place in Norwich after he ran away from home in the dead of night.

I became a fan of the great Mr Grant when I happened to watch "Bringing up Baby" on TV about 4 years ago. I have been an avid admirer of his since. I was thrilled to discover his Norwich links whilst reading a biography about him.

I knew that he had performed at the Hippodrome in the city but unfortunately this was no longer standing and I always wondered whereabouts it was.

By looking at some old pictures of the city I discovered that the Hippodrome was a very grand "opera house". It was destroyed in the 1960's to make way for a multi storey car park.

Just before Christmas I saw an article in my local paper which was asking for peoples memories of the Hippodrome. The paper had just begun a scheme to put up "Blue plaques" to commemorate areas of the city which had seen important events or been visited by famous people. (We already have a plaque outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken shop to commemorate where The Beatles stopped for fish and chips during a concert in Norwich!)
The paper mentioned that Laurel and Hardy had appeared at the Hippodrome in the 1950's but there was no mention of Cary! I decided to e mail the journalist covering the story and was delighted when he said he was unaware of the link but would certainly try to find space for Cary's name on the plaque.

A few weeks later the plaque was unveiled. I thought your fellow warbrides would like to know how Cary continues to be remembered in our city, the plaque says :

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy performed their legendary comedy double act here in Feb 1954. Norwich Hippodrome which stood on this site until its demolition in 1966 also hosted the debut in 1916 of a 12 year old acrobat Archie Leach, later known as Cary Grant.

Every time we use the car park I wonder what the site looked like in the days when a young Archie arrived in Norwich. Norwich itself is an ancient medieval city and large parts of it have not changed since the days when Cary spent time here.
I thought you would like to know about this recognition of Cary here in England. I tell all my friends and family about his links with our fine city. He will not be forgotten!

Comments:  I'm 15 and I first stared getting into older classic movies when I was seven. I really got into Cary Grant then and stared to collect his movies around the same time. Not only do I have all his movies, but I have 4 photos of him and 5 movies posters form which he was in. 2 books about him and 6 Cary Grant calendars. On top of that I have 2 autographed photos of him  to add to the other 4. It took me about 5 years and now I'm getting them on dvd. I love the fact that Cary Grant can be funny and dramatic, and that he had to work his way to the top. Another thing is his love for his daughter Jennifer. I would be at one of the following tables: His Girl Friday, Penny Serenade, The Philadelphia Story or Bring Up Baby, talking to both actress and Cary Grant, drinking pink champagne.

I do have one thing to add, at the His Girl Friday table where Jenny is sitting is wrong, it should be Bring Up Baby, shouldn't it.

Comments:  PLEASE HELP!!!  I've met lot of Cary Grant fans over the years and none have been able to answer my question.  When I was young, I turned on the TV one Friday night and happened to catch the beginning of a Cary Grant movie.  I watched about 10 or 15 minutes of it but I had to leave (well, it was FRIDAY night!).  I figured that some day I'd catch the rest of the movie but never saw it come up again.  This is how the 1st 10 minutes goes:  Cary Grant's character is walking down the street and he's obviously down on his luck... not a penny to his name.  He's very hungry and comes upon this very nice little restaurant.  He decides to go in and order a big steak and all the trimmings.  When the waiter approaches and asks if they'll be anything else, he says "Yes, I'll have another steak".  He eats the same meal all over again.  I had to leave at that point.  Does anyone know the name of this movie?

Your web site is great!  I've been a Cary Grant fan since I was ten years old.  I was home with the flu and bored with lying in bed.  One evening, my Mom brought the television into my room and that's when I saw "The Bishop's Wife."  I asked my father who that man was and after that I grew up searching for Cary Grant movies that used to come on in the middle of the night.

I didn't know there were other Cary Grant fans out there.  All of my friends have always rolled thier eyes at me over this.

I can't believe there was a War Brides convention here.  I just missed it.  I may have to join.

Thank you so much for doing this.  I will visit your website again. There is so much to see.  You have made my day.

Favorite Movie:  Notorious
Comments:  The first time I watched Notorious, Cary and Ingrid spoke Chinese - it was dubbed, a summer/winter vocation afternoon movie. It was at least 20 years ago and I was a little girl, and I saw this movie on TV in China. I fell in love with them both!

When I was flipping over the channels on another summer/winter vocation afternoon, this time in college, I watched the undubbed Cary and Ingrid, since China was starting to air undubbed movies more often by then. It didnt' help me much, since my English wasn't that good to catch the line.

Now I am traveling in the US, and I just purchased the film on DVD recently. 20 years have flied away, but it stays as one of my most favorite movies ever!

Thank you for setting up this website, I will come back again.

If you are a fan of Ingrid, I would suggest another movie of hers I just watched on PBS - the Inn of the Six Happiness. It was a very touching movie, and though of a much more serious topic( upon a real story), and so different from Notorious.

Hi!! Wow, words can not explain how freaking awesome your site on Cary
Grant is!!! Every time I visit it (which is practically every day) I am continually amazed at all the hard work you have put into and how crazy comprehensive it is.

I am a college freshman and I have been obsessed with Cary since 7th grade maybe. The first Cary Grant movie I saw was An Affair To Remember and I absolutely fell in love with Cary and that movie continues to be my favorite!! One my goals in life is to say I have seen all his movies. Hopefully someday. I often tell people that Cary Grant is my dream husband. I think that's one of the biggest reasons why I love him so much. I personally think he is THE hottest actor ever!!! No question about it. Sometimes I feel weak at the knees when I look at him and sometimes I want to cry because he's so gorgeous.

Well, there is actually a reason why I'm writing to you. I have a suggestion and now I can't remember if I have asked you this before, but here goes anyway. Since you have created this amazing website about Cary Grant, have you ever thought of doing another website about another classic movie actor/actress? I can only imagine the hard work that goes into this website and maybe you don't have time to do another, but I was just wondering if you had ever thought about it.

Thank you again for all the hard work and love you have put into this website. So many people are indebted to you for giving us so much joy in one place!!!

Comments: Two teen-age girls can be a handful! So as a way to relax I began renting old black & white movies every Friday. Enter Cary Grant! After watching just one Cary Grant movie "Arsenic and Old Lace", I had to rent more! He and his movies are postiively contagious! And now I'm hooked! Thank you for the list of films, and this wonderful, wonderful sight! 72 films, huh? I see my work is cut out for me! Ha-ha!
